We have been visiting The Gambia for over 16 years, during this time we have helped financially to build the above school, support the headmaster and put very under privileged children through school from the age of 4 years to 15/16 years of age.

The Gambia is a poor country and to give education to a child means you change ONE person’s life forever.  These children are not starving, but so poor they have no shoes and very few clothes.  They live in very basic compounds made of mud with corrugated roofs; they have no electricity and get water via a communal well.  Life is very hard and the parents earn the equivalent of £6.00 per week when they can find work.  They have literally no spare money to purchase anything other than food.  Education in The Gambia is fee paying and the vast majority of parents can not afford this.

(A 50 kilo bag of rice costing £20.00 will feed a family of 6 people for nearly 2 months)

At the moment we have arranged for 69 children to have schooling and this works as follows:-

 You pay only for the childs uniforms, school fees plus basic paper/pens etc. This costs £40.00 per annum

 We personally hand this sum of money during one of our frequent visits to the headmaster and discuss with the parents jointly

 We arrange for you to have photos of the child (taken yearly)

You will receive a copy of the childs school report and letter which, because of haphazard post we collect and forward

ALL YOUR MONEY goes to the child/family no costs or fees are taken.

If you should wish to give extra for food, clothes, toys or special books this will be done with ALL proceeds given to the child.

 

THIS IS A LONG TERM commitment for 10 years (£400.00) and if possible the whole amount can be paid up front, but this is not compulsory.
